Gunther Gehlich (1958) was a graphic Film processor and followed school in analog photography. After returning from Iceland in 2013, he tried to express colours, the hardiness and overgrowing of the country in digital photography. In his opinion he did not suceed in it.
He was inspired by Other photographers to go back to his own identity, going back to his roots in Amsterdam. The Belgian art photographer Lukas Roels showed him ‘available light photography’, in which art there is no need for additional light or it has to be reflection. That his grandfather, Coenraad Braakensiek and writer Jean Dulieu are part of his family tree can be seen at how Gunther Gehlich puts the imaginative, narrative form in his imaginations. Resulting in an honest, emotional and melancholic black and white photography, which hardly undergoes post-processing. The titles of his photos raise questions as: what is she going to do? Who are they? What happened?
Gunther lets us find the answers in our own imagination ...
