The silk of Argiope aurantia used for the stabilimentum (zigzag pattern in the center of the web) reflects ultraviolet light. This property could attract certain UV-sensitive pollinating insects, thereby increasing the chances of capture. This phenomenon is being studied to better understand the interactions between the structure of the web and the vision of its prey.
