Fragility

Man and Nature: In the palm of my hand rests a butterfly, tiny and delicate. Its fragility is palpable - its tissue-paper-thin wings seem to have been hand-painted by nature itself. Its survival is threatened by our carefully protected activities. The most powerful figures in our society do not wish to be bothered by this small, often neglected existence, unless it can be profitable for them. As I contemplate this butterfly in my hand, I wonder about the future. I wonder if one day we'll realize the impact of our actions on these delicate creatures. In the meantime, you, little wonder of nature, I'm going to immortalize your image, capture your ephemeral beauty with a photo. Then I'll set you free, allowing you to take flight again in complete freedom, to return to the world you came from, a world we all share.
